National History Museum
The National Museum of History is the largest museum institution in Albania and one of the most important. It was inaugurated on 28 October 1981. The building of the National Museum of History occupies a total area of 27,000 m2 and has an exhibition area of 18,000 m2, and a total volume of 81,000 m3. There are approximately 5000 objects, which belong to a relatively long time period, beginning from the 4th millennium BCE up to the second half of the 20th century. The Museum has been conceptualized in the way that objects and artifacts be presented through eight galleries: Gallery of Antiquity; Gallery of the Middle Ages; Gallery of Albanian National Renaissance; Gallery of Albanian Independence; Gallery of Icons; Gallery of Anti-Fascist National Liberation War; Gallery of Communist Persecution; Gallery of Mother Teresa. The National Museum of History aims to promote the understanding and assessment of Albanian history by the local, national and international public and encourage dialogue among citizens, on Albania’s past, present and future.

Visit Duration
The average visit duration through the galleries of the National Museum of History lasts 60-90 minutes. Whereas, a detailed visit lasts over 2-2.5 hours.

The National Museum of History does not provide audio guides, even though they are very necessary, and visitors often request them.
In all Museum premises, informative and guidance signs are provided.
The Museum does not allow food and beverage consumption, pets and carrying large bags. .
There are 5 restrooms on the first floor of the Museum.
Filming and photography are also prohibited.
Lockers are available to visitors, where they can store their bags and personal belongings.
The National Museum of History provides guides in several foreign languages.
The National Museum of History offers a welcoming environment to all visitors, foreign and Albanian. The entire Museum staff is available and at service to the visitors, both during high and off season.
